Binary Options Scams First Option Recovery

Undefeated roulette tricks vs forex?

i'm new in this forex stuff (not even starting yet) & first time visiting Forex. But i've read that forex basically gambling (guessing either it goes up or down, and you got previous data as reference). I'm also read about foolproof gambling tricks that works in real life roulette. Basically it goes like this :
  1. bet $1 on red - if you win, repeat step 1.
  2. if you lose, bet $3. if you win, repeat step 1.
  3. if you lose again, bet $6. if you win, repeat step 1.
  4. if you lose again, bet $14. if you win repeat step 1.
  5. if you lose again, bet $31. if you win, repeat step 1
so, can this be apply on forex trading? (there's lot ads about forex trading apps, thinking to try it) can't profit big, but seem cant lose either. might be a good strategy. any thought?
edit 1 : what i mean in this forex is binary options, which some forex trading apps operates.
edit 2 : it takes 5 unlucky trading before $55 account blown off. is that really common to get 5 unlucky trading in a row?
edit 3 : here's the math (cnp from reply)
some forex apps (like expert option or olymp trade) operate on binary option (this is unregulated securities?) where usually they give 80% return on trade. the math goes like this :
  1. $1 trade and win = $0.80 profit
  2. lose then $3 trade and win = $2.4 - $1 (lose) = $1.4 profit
  3. lose then $6 trade and win = $4.8 - $4 (lose) = $0.8 profit
  4. lose then $14 trade and win = $11.2 - $10 (lose) = $1.2 profit
  5. lose then $31 trade and win = $24.8 - $24 (lose) = $0.8 profit
edit 4 : some reply said **binary options type forex trading apps** are scam & fraud. bummer. maybe trading via smartphone isnt easy as i thought.
edit 5 : still, add some ability to reading indicator & chart could help avoiding 5 unlucky trading in a row. damn, if i'm a programmer, i'll make a trading bots based on this idea xD

[META] The Rules and their Entirety

These are the rules, everything that pertains to everyone who wishes to make any sort of interaction within this sub. Per the last META, clarity has been given in regards to bulk-type sales. Since EVERYTHING is here for you all to read, we expect there to be less issues with rule infractions and general confusion as to what’s acceptable, and what isn’t. We devote our time and energy for this sub to continuously never reach a balance amongst the users.
Our goal is to ensure the subreddit itself sticks around, along with trying to keep the userbase from being taken advantage of. Our rules make sense to some, and none to others but they serve a purpose. Regardless of how you feel, these are the rules and it is expected they be followed. At the time this post becomes visible, all of what’s listed below will be enforced as a hard rule, no more wrist slaps or babysitting.

Reporting Rules

Here are the Subreddit Reportable violations. Violating these rules will get you a ban.

Reddit Rules:

Reddit Rules regarding Firearms
No firearm sales. No Ammunition sales. No primers or gunpowder, as they are considered explosives.
No selling or distributing of files related to 3D printed firearms.
If you have no idea what this is referring to, please educate yourself before posting anything related to 3D printing files by reading up on them at the following websites:
Firearms: A Firearm is considered the serialized receiver or assembly of a working firearm. If you are unsure if an item is prohibited, contact the mods prior to posting it.
80% lowers and completion kits are not included in this prohibition as they are not firearms yet.
Bump-Stocks are considered Machine Guns by the ATF and are therefore prohibited from trading on the sub.
Binary Triggers, Cranks, and Rubber bands and other such items are not (currently) affected by this prohibition (unless Admins change their minds later).
Explosives & Hazmat: Gunpowder and Live Primers are considered as explosives and Hazardous Materials and are therefore prohibited from trade.
Ammunition: Reddit Admins use the ATF definition of ammunition which is as follows:
The term “Ammunition” means ammunition or cartridge cases, primers, bullets, or propellant powder designed for use in any firearm. The term shall not include (a) any shotgun shot or pellet not designed for use as the single, complete projectile load for one shotgun hull or casing, nor (b) any unloaded, non-metallic shotgun hull or casing not having a primer. 27 § 478.11
Brass and projectiles posted here will result in an immediate suspension by Reddit Admins, so if we find it first we will remove it.
Any violation of these above rules will result in a ban by us, or a site-wide suspension by Admins and their Anti-Evil goosesteppers.
Anyone attempting to skirt Reddit Rules will be given a 7 day ban on the first offense, a 30 day ban on the second offense, and a permaban thereafter due to the fact that Admins will use the bad behavior of a few to justify shutting down the sub for good.

Posting Rules:

This sub is for private sales only. Vendors must post in Gundeals or GunAccessoryVendors
Clarification on Vendor Rule: Don't include links to your business website, we are not a referral system, do your business on here. Please see the Reddit Self Promotion page for details on that. Reddit admins don't like you cutting in on their ad revenue. We do not support VENDORS, I.E. if you buy another company's products in bulk (such as Magpul), and just act as a distributoreseller, your business is not welcome here. That is /GunDeals territory. If you have an FFL, you cannot do business on here because are considered a firearm business, and cannot solicit any transactions involving firearms.
The limit on bulk sales/bulk items is 10, that means 10 of the same individual item can be posted for sale or trade. If you have 10 Geissele triggers, but only 4 are flat and 6 are curved, that will still count as 10, as they're the same branded trigger and likely purchased at the same time. If there are 3 OD Green items and 7 FDE that are otherwise the same item, that still count as 10. If you post 10 items of the same in one day, 10 the next, and 10 the following day after that, that will be viewed as vendor activity. To keep such things from happening, it will be limited to one sale of this type, per user, per week. The ONLY EXCEPTION to this rule is old magazines, as it is common for users to purge off part of their mag collection.
Please follow these rules when creating a listing: Prefix your title with the transaction type:
[WTS] - Want To Sell
[WTB] - Want To Buy
[WTT] - Want To Trade
[GIFT] - Gun It Forward Tactically
Suffix your title with your state (e.g. (GA) or (NY)). This will help incentivize local sales and could impact shipping costs. Also, it could affect legality of some items such as magazines and those accessories deemed as "assault weapon" parts by certain states.
Postings should all follow this general format as an example: "[WTS] M16A2 Carry Handle - $60 (VA)". If you do not list the price in the title, ensure that it is listed in the comments. Include a Dollar sign ($) or the bot will remove it.
Postings without a price value may be removed after a period of time. WTB posts require valid offering prices, and will be removed if they do not have one.
Postings with prices such as "$1 for the bot" or "$1,000,000 for the bot" that are intended to bypass our rules and automated removal system instead of posting a valid price, will be removed and a temporary ban will be issued immediately.
Postings without pictures will be removed immediately, unless these posts are WTB.
Do not post an item for sale if you do not have it in your possession at the time of posting. This includes an item you may have purchased elsewhere, you decided you don’t want it and it’s on its way to you, but it has yet to arrive. If you don’t have it, don’t post it.
If you post stock images of an item in your WTS/WTT post, that will result in a temp ban if it is your first time doing so, possibly permanent if done on multiple occasions. If you post images of someone else’s photos for “your” item, this will be viewed as scamming tactics and you will receive a permaban, immediately.
If you drop your price, use the Price Drop/NSFW Tag. If your items sell, use the Complete/Spoiler tag. Please don't delete the price of an item if it sells, because that can be used by people in the future to gauge what similar items may be worth.
If your post does not receive the traction you're wanting, refrain from reposting within a 24 hour time frame. You may repost after the 24 hours has passed, and a price drop is not required, but encouraged. Deleting your post and reposting afterwards is viewed as trying to evade this rule. It will be met with removal and a temp ban, possibly longer if done more than once.
Want to Buy/Sell/Trade (WTB/WTS/WTT): These transactions all require a price value for the item. If a listing does not include a price it may be removed and re-listed once it is in compliance. Giving an unrealistic price to avoid this rule will be treated as a rule violation. Examples of this are "WTB scope, $1" or "WTT Upper, $9999". Additionally, you must list what you are looking for in [WTT] posts. Fielding offers, testing the waters or any other post attempt to try and skirt this rule will result in the post being removed.
Gifting items forward: (GIFT) If you have small odds and ends that aren't worth much and the cost of shipping is prohibitive, you are allowed to offer items for free. The gifter is allowed to request compensation for shipping only, and can request a flair upgrade in the feedback thread for the transaction. If the receiver pays for shipping, they can also request a flair upgrade, but if they get the item for free, no flair upgrades for the recipient. Flair upgrades of this type are limited in order to avoid abuse, i.e. giving away 20 A2 grips in order to get +20 rep is not authorized.
Accounts with 5 or less flair (you must have at least 6) on GAFS are NOT eligible to participate in giveaways, due to users from other subs coming to win stuff without ever participating in GAFS, or GAFS users making multiple new burner accounts to enter giveaways.
New accounts (under 30 days of age) are not able to create WTS or WTT ads, nor should they offer things for sale in the comments of other peoples' posts. To prevent scams, new users can only post Want to Buy threads. If you want to attempt to bypass this account age requirement, you must be able to provide moderators evidence of a good trading history on another reputable online forum, such as Calgunner or AR15.com where you can show a longstanding history of positive trade feedback. If this is completed, moderators may provide an exception and allow WTS/WTT posts to be submitted by new users, with a warning caveat to any potential buyers to avoid using risky payment methods until the seller has had a chance to develop a positive trading reputation.
Any new accounts that utilize this subreddit that create names that are similar to a mods (i.e. sxbbzxro, sxbzxxro, subzxro, etc.) may be removed from participating here due to the possibility of confusing/having the ability to manipulate users into thinking they are in fact a mod.
Price Checks (PC): Because PC listings were abused by many to bypass the price rule, fish for "best offers", and otherwise snipe sales, they have been disabled after overwhelming support from the community.
We have a feedback system in place. The current month's flair thread is On the Sidebar, and is usually Stickied at the top as well. Check there for the specific directions. DO NOT create a thread for a sale that has already happened, or has happened in a different sub/website/forum etc. The Flair system is only for feedback for exchanges in /GAFS. Any attempts to game the flair system will be seen as an attempt to establish trust for scam purposes, and will be banned accordingly.
Law Enforcement: Be aware, we do not offer exemptions to any individuals who may have LE credentials. Due to the difficulty of verifying employment, possible job changes, leaving/termination from said job, etc. we treat all users as civilians. Any local and federal laws apply to all individuals who utilize this subreddit. Read up and stay up-to-date on these laws and regulations, you will be expected to know and abide by them. Failure to do so may lead to a ban.
External Sales:
NO LINKS to your external sales on TacSwap, eBay, Facebook, Armslist, Gunbroker, etc. Sales in multiple locations are allowed, but don't just provide a link to sale elsewhere. Make your listing here. The only caveat to these rules is to show a price point elsewhere if someone here has an item that is grossly overpriced, or is looking for an item.
This sub is not a "highest bid gets the item" format. There are also no lotteries for items i.e. 10 chances at $10 each to purchase a $75 flashlight with a random number generated to pick the winner.
High Value or Counterfeit Items:
To deter the sale of counterfeit products, any item that is serialized must have a picture of the serial. As firearms are not allowed for sale here, this shouldn't present a privacy issue to anyone. This policy covers items such as EOTechs, Aimpoints, Trijicons, etc. Along with this, if you're selling anything that's "new-in-box", you must unseal it and show the contents of said box/package.
No Stolen Property. If you are selling a knockoff item, indicate that fact. Items such as bipods, BUIS, flashlights, holsters, and scopes/optics are known to have some gray market options. KAC USMC Stamped Rear Sights are not stolen property and are allowed on here, unless another member can provide proof from a DoD source that they are in fact considered stolen government property.
All GAFS logos, icons, banners and visual content related to this subreddit, belong to the moderator team. Do not create/manufacture/produce items with this content onto itself. It is forbidden to profit off the GAFS name, unless discussed with the modteam in advance and given permission.

Shipping/Insurance Rules:

The official policy is for the mods to not get involved with issues regarding lost packages, provided that the parties can prove it was actually lost. If you feel like insurance should be added to your transaction, please take care to add that before finalizing terms.

General Rules:

WARNING: Be aware of all state and federal laws that apply to you and any parties involved in a firearms-related transaction. You are responsible for knowing and following the law. This Subreddit and its staff are in no way responsible for informing you of the law, but will make every effort to do so. As a buyer, be familiar with your state/county/city rules. As a seller, do not knowingly sell prohibited items to areas that have laws against your items, such as certain capacity magazines. Any person, buyer, or seller, who knowingly solicits a trade that is illegal for them may be subject to a ban.
Respect all federal and local laws for any transaction you take part in. This includes federal drug laws. Drug activity tied to your account tied to any other issues is sufficient grounds for banning. Here is the ATF Letter that explains why any suspected drug activity, including marijuana, is grounds for immediate banning from the sub. Illegal gun activity such as unregistered SBRs, AOWs, destructive devices, DIAS or lightning links in your reddit profile (in or outside the sub) can be reason for banning. Do not spread bad information regarding laws.
Any item you post for sale is expected to be in your current possession. If this is not the case, you must specify this in the listing. Circumstances such as selling for a friend is allowed, but pictures of your items are required to be shared to the public. You do not need an imgur.com account in order to host pictures of your item on imgur, so that is not an excuse.
If you are scammed, inform the mods as soon as you can so that we may investigate and ban the offending parties if necessary.
Do not post the personal information of any Reddit users. The exception to this is if someone uses PayPal to scam a member, this information may be sent to the mods to prevent others from also being scammed. Doxxing people will not be tolerated.
Do not antagonize posters about their price, opinion, or sexual orientation (etc). This translates to be a general rule of "no dickish behavior". If you disagree with someone's price, and can post evidence that their item has a current or recent better price elsewhere such as a link to a vendor, that information is authorized to be posted. That is not antagonism. People may comment on prices and offer counter-offers, as long as behavior is not insulting or unprofessional. If you feel that someone is being unprofessional regarding pricing, report it and the mods will evaluate the case. They are the determining factor whether behavior warrants muting, temporary banning, or permanent banning based on severity of incident, past behavior, and other factors. If your behavior does not contribute towards the positive image of firearms ownership, your participation in this subreddit may not be welcome.
Soliciting any type of transaction regarding prohibited items may result in a ban. This includes Price Checks of firearms and other prohibited items, as this can be seen as an attempt to garner PM offers for prohibited items. Remember that there is no expectation of privacy from Reddit Admins, and that they have shown in the past that they have access to private message histories.
As a general guideline, if a buyer wants to use PayPal Goods and Services (G&S) rather than Friends and family (F&F), it is expected that they will absorb the ~3% fee for the increased protections. However, PayPal F&F, Zelle, and Venmo and similar payment methods are discouraged here due to a lack of protections.
All rules and guidelines are subject to change. The moderators have the final say in all issues in relation to the rules and how to enforce them.

Fixing the Bounty Hunter Story (Specifically Belsavis)

Obviously, there are spoilers for the Bounty Hunter class story as well as some minor spoilers for KotFE/KotEE, if you're worried about that. As always, there is a TL;DR of the changes I'll make at the bottom, although this is (hopefully) less of a slog than my previous posts.
I planned to have a break after my Fixing Consular Chapter 1 so as not to spam the subreddit but I recently started my new hunter and this story has been on my mind, so I guess this is part 3 of my 'Fixing' series. (Fixing Shadow of Revan can be found here.) This one shouldn't be as long as I'm mostly focusing on one planet, rather than the 5 from Consular Chapter 1 or the 3+ from SoR but I'm also going to look at some companions and how they could have been implemented better.
I'm going to start out with a pretty strong claim: I think the Bounty Hunter story is possibly the best in the game. It's the only one I've really played more than once because I feel like there's so much different that I could do. It doesn't have the highs of the Agent or Smuggler. It doesn't have the overall impact of the Knight or Warrior or the grand scale of the Consular but what it does have is fun stories and strong, likable characters… well, except for one.
See, I think there are two major issues with the bounty hunter story and both revolve around companions you receive throughout your journey. The first is more simple, so I'll start there:

Fixing Gault

Now, I love Gault. He's a fun character. Daran Norris has a great voice that is absolutely iconic and Gault represents the dirtier side of bounty hunting; not evil, per se, but amoral.
The problem with his inclusion is that it outright requires you to betray your client and for no real reason. Gault provides you with the means to cheat but not the motive. That's what we're going to fix.
The main difference here will be your mission. You will not be sent to specifically kill Tyresius Lokai. Instead, you will be sent as a 'debt collector.' You go after Tyresius to try and get him to pay back one of the countless ganglords he swindles. You finally catch up to him and he makes you a deal: he doesn't have the money, but if you fake his death for him, he will stay as your prisoner until he pays it off. You can pay the debt off, if you feel like it, or just send one of his body doubles as payment and pocket the money he owes for his 'freedom'. Basically the same as the original, but now you have a reason to keep him alive and it doesn't break your contract. For a light side character, you now have a contract to fulfil in which you keep him safe and he pays away his debt. For a dark side character, you keep him alive and pocket the debt money, letting them take a fake body double as payment.
On top of this, it now gives more of a reason for his money-making schemes while on board the ship. Instead of just scamming people because he's bored, he has an actual aim: to pay his way off the ship. And, as you go along, he gets a taste for the hunting life and decides to stick around even after paying his dues. A simple, elegant fix to fit the character into the story. It also leads better into his role in KotFE, where he uses his scam artistry for good, rather than for himself.
Lastly, it would give you an actual use for that little prison cell on your ship. Sure, eventually you will end up letting him out to be a part of your crew, but for the first meeting at least you could have him stuck in that cute little cell, which would be fun.
Now that that is out of the way, I'll move onto the real meat of the post, the big problem I had with the Bounty Hunter story which made an otherwise pretty perfect story fall a bit flat: Belsavis.
Belsavis was such an opportunity for the bounty hunter. It is literally a prison full of the worst scum the Galaxy has to offer. That is a dream for any bounty hunter. Unfortunately, it is by far the weakest part of the story for a few reasons when it should be the strongest. Also, a lot of my ideas for this come from my Weird moment in the Bounty Hunter storyline on Belsavis post from a while ago.
I decided my aims for this part were threefold:
With those three aims in mind, I hope to create a new but similar Belsavis that exemplifies the bounty hunter story while also providing character defining choices that better lead into the finale of the class story.

The Story

The Belsavis story would start the same. You are tasked by Darth Tormen to hunt down Zale Barrows, a Republic hero famed for his daring smuggling antics who now serves as a dangerous prisoner transport. Zale is on Belsavis, having refused to leave when the riot started as he attempts to keep the prisoners he has captured from being freed. Of course, we find this information out along the way and I want to keep the factor that he starts out seeming like a sleazy jerk, but that we learn more about his operation as we go along. I think that's good character building.
However, this is where the first change happens: Skadge is not a total moron. This is the big problem I had with Skadge in the story. He was depicted as being 'the muscle', the enforcer of the group who didn't need to think because he could smash things. The problem is that this character already existed. It's the bounty hunter. You are characterised as the tough guy who can smash their way through whatever. Who needs Skadge to intimidate people when you can already intimidate Sith Lords?
So we're going to change Skadge up a bit. He can still be the grumpy, obnoxious bully we all hate love, but he is now also a Kingpin. He was already supposed to be a high ranking member of Black Sun, so why would he not be running his own gang here on Belsavis?
Back to the story. Zale is able to use the prison to his advantage since he is basically a member of staff. He traps you and gets away, leaving you locked up. That's when you meet Skadge. He frees you and makes you a business offer: he and his gang (we'll call them The Eclipse, as a riff on Black Sun) help you with your 'Zale' problem and in return, you get him off-planet. You aren't in much position to say no, since you're in a cell and Skadge is the only one who can get you out. You agree to the exchange and he frees you and takes you back to his base of operations.
I don't really want to get into the nitty gritty but the two of you go after Zale, with Skadge using his connections on the planet to genuinely help because, another problem with Skadge is that his presence on Belsavis actively makes your job harder. Even when he is trying to help you, he makes things worse. That isn't the case here. You and Skadge are working as a team to hunt Zale down and he is very competent, but using a series of secret tunnels and his own wit, Zale is able to stay ahead.
It's a real game of cat and mouse. On top of that, with Skadge being a more professional character, we can add some darker stuff. Instead of having him just being a dick to Zale's girlfriend, his gang can have her imprisoned and tortured for information. This is the game's chance to make Skadge scary. He isn't just a thug, he's a big deal, which is why he's on Belsavis to begin with. Throughout his actions, we need to make Skadge a real dark character, not just a bully. Making him into a professional killer and not a chaotic stupid goon creates a foil to the light side bounty hunter and an aspiration for a dark side bounty hunter, if we want to follow that simple binary. We'd also learn that Skadge has his own vendetta against Zale since Zale brought him here.
So, we continue on and, eventually, you catch up to Zale in the Tomb and he explains that he doesn't care if he is killed but he wants to keep these prisoners here. What's happened over the story so far is that we've had a perspective shift. At the start of Belsavis, Skadge is our ally and Zale is our enemy. However, as we go through, our perception of Zale goes from that of a scumbag to an honourable lawman, while our perspective of Skadge goes from being a business partner to a dangerous monster. You are then given the choice: help Zale fight the Imperial task force and prevent his prisoners from being freed, for which he promises to give himself up willingly, or help Skadge get his revenge, get your own bounty and help out the Empire along the way. If you help the imperials, Zale is badly injured and you decide whether to freeze him, kill him or let Skadge have his way with him, basically the same as the original story.
However, if you choose to help Zale, you fight off the Imperial task force alongside Zale. Skadge would be seperated from the fight. Maybe the bridge retracts and he's left on the other side. Either way, it's just you and Zale vs the Imperials. You fight them off and the bridge comes back. Zale honours his bargain and gives himself up to you. You are then given a choice: kill Zale, capture Zale or recruit Zale. Whatever you choose, Skadge returns with some of his gang members who will take Zale away if you choose to kill or capture him. Skadge informs you that they're taking him to your ship and that Skadge will stick with you 'in search of future business opportunities.' If you choose to recruit Zale, Skadge will be angered that you broke his contract and attack. You kill his gangsters and leave Skadge wounded. However, he makes his escape before you can finish him off and Zale informs you that the two of you need to get off-planet before the prison goes into lockdown again.
There's some precedent for this, as within the Beta, there was the option to aid Zale, which was taken out for whatever reason (because Beta Testers are behind seemingly everything that is wrong with this game). Unfortunately, in that version, Zale still turns on you, which doesn't seem like the character that appeared in game. However, I made a whole rant post about how badly executed this whole segment was, giving you three different options to deny Zale's perfectly reasonable deal.
While I think my second and third aims are met by this change, I still have my first aim to touch on. This is where I'm going to expand on something that is already in the game.
As you land on Belsavis, either Mako or Torian radios you from the ship, pointing out that there are various bounties on the planet for you to collect. I liked this little bonus objective. It felt very in-line with everything and fit the planet well. However, I think we could do more with it. Rather than just being random characters on the planet, each of them should have their own (very) mini story. I'm talking about a single cutscene each, but enough to characterise them in a satisfying way, something that makes them feel more alive than just little extra objectives. This would be an opportunity to create some fun, zany characters that don't hold up to being main characters but are still memorable from their small appearances.

The Aftermath

So, what would all this change? Well, in terms of the overall story, not much. It would foreshadow your eventual (possible) turn towards the Republic. It would offer a 'light side' alternative to Skadge's 100% dark side and it would make the planetary story flow better. The only issue I could see would be that you could then go through the planetary arc and actually free the Dreadmasters with Zale, the exact thing you helped him stop, but I think we could do something about that.
Otherwise, Skadge has basically no presence in the story outside of Belsavis. He has his conversations, then is completely unnecessary until his Alliance Alert in KotEE, which can still happen since he canonically didn't die and would eventually escape Belsavis by himself. He'd probably be unable to join a hunter that already screwed him over, but that's fine.
Outside of that, we'd have to flesh out Zale through his companion conversations, although his personality is already pretty well executed on Belsavis, and we'd have to alter Skadge's lines to better represent the brutal crime boss aspect of his character.
Finally, as a fun side note; with my changes, you could go through the entire story honouring every contract. The original story forces you to fake Gault's death which always felt very dishonourable to me, but my version has the contract altered in a way that you can still honour it while keeping Gault on your ship. It also adds the contract you make with Skadge, which a light side character who saves Zale would be dishonouring. That adds a fun layer of complexity. Do you turn on Skadge, your 'employer' for the greater good or do you honour the deal you made?
Anyways, those are my thoughts on how the Bounty Hunter story, and particularly Belsavis, could be improved. I'll put in the TL;DR below, even though this is much more manageable than my previous entries.

TL;DR

Raid loot distribution systems thread

In Classic, there is 40 people in raid for 2-3 items per boss. This ensures some people will not get loot week after week.
Guilds have reacted to this problem in multiple different ways. This is intended to be a free discussion thread, but here is my rating of loot distribution so far, in my opinion.
Here`s how I rate loot distribution systems:
  1. Loot council with god GM: This is the best loot distribution option for guilds that are very dedicated and loyal. Diehard hardcore guilds with super experienced, fair GMs can have this system without much trouble. People will understand not getting loot because it is REALLY best for the guild.
  2. DKP: Why DKP is in second? Well, because it is the fairest/easiest option for classic, Imo. Its better than round robin because, while similar, you can decide to bet higher or lower depending on item quality, it also rewards showing up for raid, having consumables, however the guild decides to reward their player DKP. It`s also easier for GM to administer than round robin, since its pretty hard to know which people of a class/spec got an item, week after week, with people missing raid, leaving guild, joining guild, etc. Round robin is binary, 1 is you can roll, 0 is you cant roll until everybody else got something, DKP is currency-based and a lot more instinctive.
  3. Main spec rolling: Without DKP, main spec rolling feels the best. It causes least drama, everybody got a chance at winning stuff for their main spec which is great.
  4. Round robin: Round robin is pretty bad. It encourages leaving the guild after you get a raid bis item. It encourages pugging raids and missing your guild`s raids for the same reason. It also means fresh 60s can roll over veterans. It`s pretty complicated to keep up with, since there is no out of game support for it. It can work if there is a dedicated and loyal constant 35-40 man raid, but at this point if you can do that why not just loot council.
  5. Free rolling: Free roll is a mess and even in pugs, main spec rolling is better.
  6. Corrupt/noob loot council: This is the worst distribution, because at some point, the majority of people will be pissed off and cause drama because the gear is either being wasted or hogged by officers and GM pets. This loot system will most often cause a guild death spiral, where the most dedicated players who get scammed leave first, and then the mainline follows them because they knew the dedicated players were good people and players, and finally the guild becomes nonviable and dies.
What is your opinion and best loot system?

Betrayal as a Core Game Mechanic

Before we begin: what do you think Betrayal would and should look like as a core game mechanic? What expectations do you have for it? In addition, try to think of what Betrayal's place would be in the game were it simply implemented exactly as is, but somewhat less common than it is at the moment because it will compete with other masters for appearances (assuming they're mutually exclusive).
PROBLEMS AND SOLUTIONS:

"Core" league vs "current" league
Description of problem: This isn't actually a problem, just a byproduct of GGG's league design. I decided to talk about this at the very start to differentiate between two things: How GGG "should" design a current league and how GGG should adapt that league into core content. The league's content is stretched to last for three months, and since the encounter rate is high, the rewards are correspondingly miniscule. Content that is now core has a relatively lower encounter rate, but the rewards are larger per encounter (but still small to make up for the fact that content has been cumulative for years on end, lending to how crazy maps can get). Since temporary leagues have long been the de facto "way" of playing the game, people seem to have forgotten GGG's disclaimers that temporary league balance has a high likelihood of being off. GGG rarely hits out of the park on the first try, but they have a history of nailing it the next time around. Invasion was nerfed, Necrovigil and Phylacteral Link were removed, Order of the Frozen Sky isn't horrific anymore, Malachai was nerfed, Bestiary was fixed, Betrayal's bugs were (eventually) fixed, and so forth. I have faith that GGG will do what's right and I'm looking forward to what GGG will do with a "core" Betrayal because the "league" Betrayal is already history at this point. We're already in the preliminary stages of the next round of new league hypebuilding.

Betrayal Safehouse loot is bad and so is low-level farming
Description of problem: At the core of ARPGs, everything comes back to loot. We're not helping Zana because we care; we want to snatch the eyes right out of Uber Elder's writhing head. This talk will be split into two parts: Safehouses and Veiled items. Let's start with Safehouses. Here is a graphic of all Betrayal rewards and how I have personally ranked them, according to their value within BSC and the opportunity cost of putting a member in one branch and not another. Some of these could be shifted around according to one's preferences (some people don't want to deal with Guff's benches, other people don't value Cameria's legacy Uniques because the chances of getting something good are too low, etc). But this is a rough guide for what most players will see when they get Safehouse loot.
Total # of possible rewards: 68 # of good rewards: 15 # of middling rewards: 16 # of bad rewards: 37
# of level-scaled rewards: 15 # of good rewards scaled by level: 0 # of middling rewards scaled by level: 0 # of bad rewards scaled by level: 15
Let's talk about the three types of rewards I've delineated.
The Good: GGG did well with the good rewards. Stuff like turning Rare amulets into Talismans (effectively solving Talisman's long-standing problem of being inferior Rare items because you could never control the explicit rolls), adding White sockets to any gear (not just craftable bases like Delve's Fractured Fossils), "free" Exalt slams, breaking the quality cap, and so forth. PoE is a character building game and giving players these kinds of small optimizations (on top of the big and risky stuff like double-corruption rooms) is precisely what separates the top builds on poe.ninja from the budget cookie-cutter stuff with inferior performance. In fact, I wouldn't mind them being at their current rarity level once they go core because that's just how strong they are.
The Bad: Thing #1 is that it's okay for the Syndicate to have bad rewards. It would have happened regardless of design since even when all things are good, some things are relatively less good. Additionally, if everything was good in a generic and non-specific way, the Syndicate as a whole would lack flavor. For example, Leo gives Torment Scarabs because he's the Ghost of PvP Past and Tormented Spirits are about as fun and rewarding as PoE PvP in 2019. Jokes aside, it's also possible to mitigate the bad rewards by interrogating these people for intel in lieu of others because they don't matter anyways, unlike a 3* Cameria in Intervention. So we can't deny that Betrayal's got flavor. The bad news is that the flavor is "the juice that leaks out from the bottom of black garbage bags". Instead of "everything being good so nothing matters", we have "almost nothing is good, so only a few things matter". Really, I don't know what GGG was thinking when it came to some of Vagan, Haku, and Elreon's rewards. They literally drop less than a white unrolled map for all the effort that goes into making a Safehouse.
Thing #2 is that there's too much "bad". Much of it could be converted to "middling" with some adjustment, which would make an undesirable safehouse outcome much less galling to swallow. Alternatively, many "bad" rewards would simply become less relevant if syndicate manipulation had more quality of life and less tedium. If Betrayal was simply dumped into the core game with a lower encounter rate right now, it would be frustrating to deal with and a mediocre gameplay experience as a result.
The Middle: The middling rewards mostly relate to items you can get from other sources, like Fossils, Fragments, Essences, Currencies, Divination Cards, and Maps. In the case of Maps and anything to do with them, I think some of the devaluation can also be blamed on Pure Breachstones, which have inflated supply (The HarbingeBeachhead effect).
The problem is simple: It is more efficient to obtain those items from other sources (including their original sources) than it is to farm the Syndicate for them. I'm not advocating for the reverse, because then only the Syndicate would be relevant content unless it was significantly gated. But as it stands, Korell's fossils are a joke because doing Delve for them is better. Stacks or spreads of random Divination cards are a joke because it's better to use a Divination Card scarab on a zone that actually gives the Divination card you want in a somewhat deterministic fashion (You know, the point of Divination cards); Gravicius ain't no Putrid Cloister. Fragments are better farmed from the trade website and twinned triple boss corrupted maps and currencies and uniques are better found simply by running a map.
Betrayal does not scale well with area level:
Oh boy, here we go.
This. This right here. This is the reason why we were running Harbour Bridge and Foothills for the whole league. This is the reason why people were able to target-farm Pure Breachstones and pump out more than half the amount of level 100s in Standard (the cumulative history of the game) in a single league. If Betrayal's content and rewards had scaled more appropriately with area level, we could have had a league that excels in both low and high-level content, like Delve.
So, you do easy stuff, you should get meh rewards. If you do hard stuff, you should get good rewards. One of the most fundamental ingrained ideas behind gaming design. What constitutes "hard stuff" can be difficult to describe at times since the layered content and occasional lack of visual clarity in PoE creates difficulty spikes and each build and player is challenged by different aspects of the game. But content design and controlled encounters can remove the possibility of difficulty spiking due to unexpected variables, which means Betrayal has less excuses for its ratio of difficulty to reward. You feel bored when you do hundreds of hours of monotonous low-level zones. You feel excited when something challenges you and forces you to upgrade your build and pay close attention to positioning and enemy patterns. You feel betrayed when hard content gives you bad loot and you feel annoyed when easy content gives you good loot because the game's design gives you a begrudging reason to do the tedious and easy content as opposed to the more varied difficult content. That's what Betrayal, as a league, was.
If you look at the second row of my table above, you'll see that less than a fourth of all possible Safehouse rewards scale with area level. And all of them are "bad" outcomes. Arguably, Jorgin's "Aspect rares" are potentially middling because you could split them with a Bestiary recipe and get a craftable base in case you're not finding a Fenumal Hybrid Spider or a Farric whatever, thus enabling SSF builds. And that part of Jorgin is good because it gives a partially deterministic outcome. Here's the other commonality between all of these bad, level-scaling rewards: there are a lot of rare item outcomes. Hell, I didn't even read this thread, but it probably does an excellent job of explaining the numerous problems with rare items. As it stands, there is virtually no reason to do Betrayal in Tier 16 maps: you get plenty of risk, without a corresponding increase in reward.
Proposed solutions to problem: The solution should be grounded in thinking about "where" Betrayal fits in the loot acquisition possibilities of the game as a whole. Delve, for example, is an all-rounded system with good scaling that bolsters Rare item crafting. Bestiary is mostly mid to end-game with respect to customizing flasks, obtaining random Unique items, and using obscure crafting techniques. Incursion falls into the same mold, with Alva's temples being the most influential as a supplement for early mapping (map drops within the Temple of Atzoatl) and for various powerful "crafting benches" and upgraded Incursion Uniques that are reserved for the elite (or ludicrously lucky) of Wraeclast. Bloodlines, Nemesis, Invasion, Beyond, Domination, and various other leagues are instance and enemy seasoning.
What I mean when I say "where does Betrayal belong" is that Betrayal has a tremendous untapped niche that has been buried all along because of GGG's flawed reward distribution. This niche is "deterministic farming". Manipulating the Syndicate and targeting certain members in certain branches to get Harbinger Orbs to upgrade your stagnant map pool or getting crucial gem levels on your spells to get an extra power boost, that's what I'd really love to do. Betrayal could be like Divination cards 2.0 in giving mid to end-game players a solid process for obtaining otherwise obscure items and niche services that will really push their itemization to the next level while also giving lower-level players powerful Rare items and crafting options while leveling. Frankly, I have no idea what I'd want to make this happen, so this is just an idea at present. So what I'm suggesting will merely be tweaks on top of what exists at the moment rather than a radical overhaul to bring Betrayal more in line with something like Divination cards.
The good rewards are fine and could even be a little rarer (especially to preserve the value and intrigue of those services). Especially Pure Breachstones. Look, I enjoy being level 100 as much as any of you guys, but it's a little ridiculous, right? That this single Safehouse outcome alone was so influential as to influence gem experience markets, map valuation, rare jewelry markets, build archetypes, and generate a majority of "the reason why people are running Harbour Bridge"? We know it, GGG knows it; it's going to be destroyed harder than CoC was in the past.
The middling rewards are largely a ratio of reward against tedium and quantity. If GGG can balance this ratio, it'll just work. Make Betrayal less tedious to manipulate; more on that later. Make the currency-based rewards drop a guaranteed higher-tier currency of the respective type or a higher quantity of the lower tiers. Essences of Hysteria, Delirium, etc. Faceted and Hollow fossils. Divine and Annulment Orbs. Uber Atziri fragments. That's what we should be seeing once Betrayal goes core. Make quantity scale with the 3* mechanic and make quality scale with area level, because a level 60 3* Syndicate member is far less dangerous than a level 83 1* Syndicate member.
The bad rewards need to either be scaled up or changed entirely, full stop. On an individual basis, my ideas:
  1. Aisling's stashes should drop more Veiled items now that the Syndicate will be less common.
  2. Elreon should give more Unique items or give a guaranteed higher rarity tier of them. Every league has given increased means to obtain Unique items and compared to them, Elreon is an utter joke. I get more Uniques from completing one Incursion in a yellow map than I do from Elreon.
  3. Why does Haku give items with quality in Research. I can buy Whetstones and Armourer scraps from vendors. Even Delve gives "Superior" (30% quality) items, which I'd count as better than Haku. What does Haku even "do" in Transportation?
  4. Hillock map quality. This would only be valued back in the days when people Exalted maps.
  5. ITF should give more Breach Splinters, more Abyss Jewels. To be honest, I'm not sure why they gave it Abyss Jewels instead of Breach Rings. Maybe because they realized that Breach Rings are hot garbage.
  6. More Talismans from Jorgin, perhaps with a guaranteed cascade of tiers and even some Tier 4 Greatwolfs (not the Unique variety), which we haven't seen since the days of Rigwald. Most if not all of the Talisman affixes are useful, hence why I don't distinguish so much between tiers 1 to 3 and would want equal access to all of them.
  7. For SSF, I'd rate Riker as a middling pick because ilvl100 can be useful for some bases and a choice of Unique is better than Elreon's "Rain of Alch Shards". But it's still not great since we're getting "one" item and it's probably not great. Better options would be the obvious pick, not sure what would fly besides that. Maybe if we could go between five Trapped tabs, pick out five items, and get two randomly out of five? It'd ruin the deterministic flavor though, which I like about Trapped stashes. I'd almost even like a Tetris or matching game.
  8. Tora should give the highest tier of enchant on bases of the best possible item variant. Getting a Merciless Labyrinth enchant on utter trash is disheartening. Shaper or Elder influence would be a welcome addition as well.
  9. Vagan.
The sad part about the level-scaling was that GGG could have done it before this point. They could have done it all along and made Betrayal a truly great league.
So, what should they do going forward? I've read some people who proposed that the 3* system should be abolished completely and that all rewards should simply be scaled by area level, but I don't see why they couldn't utilize both systems. As I said earlier, quantity should scale with the 3* mechanic and quality should scale with area level because the latter is the far more dangerous (and important, if we want to incentivize playing in high-level content).
  1. As I said for currency stashes, give a chance to drop either one of a high-tier currency or several lower-tier currencies of the same type.
  2. Intervention stashes should perform similarly. Make the 3* continue to give a guaranteed gilded scarab of the member's type (since this worked fine in the league), but make area level scale linearly with chances to give additional Polished or Rusted Scarabs (with an extra Scarab being granted per 6 levels divisible past area level 65 (so an area level 83 zone gives a neat chance to give 4 Scarabs per stash and 1-3 in anything less). I'm assuming that Scarabs will stay locked behind Betrayal instead of becoming a general currency drop, but we could get an Annulment Orb treatment.
  3. Research rewards are tricky, since they consist of crafting bench services that can't really be meaningfully changed and are already very good. But change some of the crappy ones, my god...
    1. Gravicius is a joke: the tier of card given should at least be of the same rarity tier, or it could be something like a Tier 3 Sacrifice chamber where a card with a same "set count" is given (thus drastically revaluing 8-set cards).
    2. Or it could be changed to "create duplicates of an inserted card", with the number scaling according to Gravicius' level and the set count of that card.
  4. Janus and Cadiro as a whole need to be rebalanced; it's a crying shame for such a widely praised league with solid early-mid game integration and SSF potential to go to waste because Cadiro is now an overcharging Rare jewelry vendor.
  5. Haku should do something completely different. My idea is to upgrade items with "low" base into items of a "high" base. This has been a longstanding idea, but I've never heard it mentioned with respect to the Syndicate (which surprises me, since the Syndicate is all about outlandish ideas). For example, going from a Destroyer Regalia to a Vaal Regalia. Obviously, not all items have a 1:1 example like this, so the applications would need to be done on a case by case basis.
  6. Several rare-item related rewards should be changed to have a deterministic mod on them or provide a craftable base a la Jorgin's Aspect items. "More Rare items to identify" is not the solution. Identifying items is a tedious exercise in item-filtering that takes away from gameplay and adds to unnecessary micro-management that is no different from the end of an Incursion or Delve node. Giving us something to craft and sink currency into; that's engaging, that's "Delve meta-mod item" kinda stuff right there. The Syndicate is all about customization, so give us something to customize. Abyss jewels could have Delve fossil modifiers already on them, Rare items with Essence mods could drop, sealed Bestiary Orbs with beasts inside... the possibilities are far larger than what GGG has laid forth
  7. This is the most outlandish idea I've thought of yet: Make the Syndicate change rewards per league, like Zana. They could still stick to general themes, but any way to shake up potential future metas involving Betrayal as a core league mechanic is huge. Especially with respect to the "discovery" theme of Betrayal, if we had to relearn what the rewards were each league. I seriously didn't think of this until just now and I don't think GGG will do it, but it's an interesting proposition for sure.

Betrayal Veiled items are bad but not that bad
Description of problem: Veiled items share the same problems as rare items because they are rare items with a crafted affix on top. As one's crafting bench completion increases, Veiled items become increasingly useless to pick up and annoying to unveil. The veiled signature mods of Syndicate members, in particular, require special attention to obtain. 20 chaos orbs for It that Fled veiled mods will become far worse in future leagues.
Proposed solution to problem: Rare items are another can of worms, so it's regrettable that there's no way to make veiled item drops impactful beyond early game, recipe unlocking, and the occasional very rare good item. The crafting bench problem will not be alleviated by making veiled items more rare (an assumed condition of Betrayal going core exactly as it is now): you'll simply have the same problem at the top-end with a corresponding increase in the price of unveiled items, crafting services, and scamming. Solutions are numerous, but they all boil down to "make more veiled items drop" because it is likely that the difficulty of finishing one's crafting bench may even be intentional. Veiled items could drop in the core game and not merely from Syndicate members. Syndicate members could have a guaranteed drop of at least one veiled item. More Syndicate members could spawn per encounter, or Jun could become an Alva-style master and be encountered multiple times per instance, but only spawn the encounter once you speak with her (rather than running across them in the wild as we do now, as the spawning of one Syndicate encounter removes the existence of previous unfinished ones due to the Betrayal board increments by "turns". I was going to suggest making unveils more likely to give unknown or incomplete recipes, but the way veiled items generate prohibits that. Finally, GGG could shake up crafting as we know it in 3.6 and add more recipes, move some veiled mods to in-map recipes, or make Syndicate members themselves drop recipe objects that grant the recipe in question.

Manipulating the Syndicate feels bad
Description of problem: While having two choices per encounter may have worked for Incursion, it doesn't work for Betrayal. With Incursion, you get 11 encounters and that's it; each one increments progress, even if you die and fail to kill either of the Architects.
With Betrayal, encounters do not necessarily increment progress towards a Safehouse because other options continually come up. I said that there were "two" options per member per encounter, but in practice, this number is often lower. While interrogation will guarantee that progress increases, it is generally reserved for moving undesirable members around to allow desired members to fill their places or for keeping a safehouse locked because it decreases the quality of rewards from the interrogated member and lowers their rank, resulting in less intelligence and necessitating yet more executions to level members up. In the course of "naturally" playing Betrayal (as opposed to targeted farming), interrogation is mathematically the least efficient option, if necessary at times to cap off a Safehouse.
While GGG may have envisioned Betrayal like a tidal pool with patterns constantly in flux, ultimately yielding a beneficial outcome, we players would rather have a bird in a hand than some unknown garbage in the bush. Thus, valued members are rarely interrogated (because there's no guarantee that they'd return to their original position due to the randomness involved in encounters) and single-member encounters are often utterly useless, especially for the purposes of securing intelligence. The reward design of the Syndicate coupled with the mechanics of progressing towards a Safehouse result in an optimal and preferable structure that largely removes the annoyances of the two inferior Syndicate branches (Transportation and Fortification) while promoting investment into a few key members in Research and Intervention. Theoretically, it would also be possible to farm Fortification and Transportation quite rapidly and profitably because they are more common than their sister branches, but again, the reward structure dissuades this type of farming.
The specter of level-scaling also rears its head here. While higher area levels seem to increase the chance for multiple Syndicate members to spawn (alongside appropriate relationships), they also increase the difficulty of the encounter multiplicatively. Red map mods on top of higher area level on top of whatever items and ranks the Syndicate members have on top of there simply being more members around to attack you. By contrast, Harbour Bridge farming is extremely tame. There's also time to take into consideration: higher level areas take more time to clear than Harbour Bridge or Foothills, assuming that the same build were to deal with both. While a high level area might have extra features that might give returns for the time invested (aka, you do the rest of the map after you do the Syndicate), there's nothing quite so fast and precise as farming the Syndicate in Foothill. Level scaling also has absolutely no effect on intel gains, apart from the possibility of spawning more members (which is more safely and rapidly done by creating new instances in low level zones).
Of course, what I've mentioned thus far is if everything in the Syndicate works like clockwork and people simply go into encounters, click whichever buttons, and go on their merry way. What actually happens is that players are constantly forced to walk away from encounters because the given options would actually set them back.
It feels bad to walk away from Betrayal encounters. Or from any encounter in general. Take Alva, for example. Due to the way instance generation works, her three appearances within an instance sharply limit our ability to get specific Tier 3 Temple rooms (namely, the highly desired Corruption and Sacrifice rooms). When an instance is created, content is not generated as it is encountered; it is created all at once. This means that Alva cannot offer to affect the same room more than once within a single set of three Incursions (whereas she was capable of offering consecutive upgrades during Incursion league). If you were to naturally do 3-3-3-2 Incursions, you would only have 4 chances to affect a given room in the Temple. There is a small trick you can do to increase your chances of affecting a desirable room: When Alva offers a room, that offer remains on the table if you leave the instance and spawn a new Alva elsewhere. Consequently, if you get a bad offer from Alva, you can just skip her current Incursion, spawn another Alva, and then the other 2 Incursions in the new set of 3 cannot be that "bad" offer that she's currently got.
The problem is that this trick increases the amount of time it would take you to access a temple. Let's say you constantly perform this trick, such that you only effectively do 2 Incursions per Alva. Instead of taking 4 Alvas to access a Temple, it would take 6. In addition, let's say you're getting Alva on high pack size maps or maps with desirable Divination cards. If you skip an Alva encounter in that instance, you're losing out on loot and experience. This is technically a trade-off, as you are trading away Alva encounters in order to potentially get better results from your Temple. But that's not what it feels like, due to the opportunity costs involved with walking away from Alva.
And now let's bring it back to Betrayal. When you meet the Syndicate, what's the worst that could happen? Well, you might get members who won't be kicked out, or you'll kick them out but they just come back, or desirable members will try to leave, or they'll offer to remove all rivalries when you don't want to, or they'll offer to become trusted, or they'll offer to do some kind of betrayal that you don't want (which are most of what happens when it's down to two people, hence the preference for rivalries over trusted statuses), or you'll simply only get one lone guy to show up and it isn't because he's 3* and can't summon unranked members, it's because you just got bad RNG, and you'll have no choice but to turn tail and gloomily walk out of that Research lab. And it'll keep on happening over and over, though at least Betrayal going core means you won't get this crap happening in every single instance.
That's what I mean when I say manipulating the Syndicate feels bad. If the league went core exactly as it is today, with an appearance rate shared between all of the masters, you would virtually never complete a safehouse with desirable outcomes.
I would be remiss to not mention that there are quality of life problems with the Syndicate that have nothing to do with the league's mechanical design. For instance, the visual web of lines connecting members can become so tangled as to be incomprehensible. Only dialogue outputted to chat can give clear indicators of what each member thinks of their colleagues (because the infighting tends to be unnoticeable in the storm of VFX that typically occupy any PoE player's screen or the enemies die too quickly to do anything). Syndicate members can also rarely die out of bounds while performing movement skills. Finally, there are persistent damage skills on some Syndicate members and mobs that can annoy someone who's just trying to bargain with the fallen, including the electrified nets and Cameria's icicle cone. These self-same skill effects will also become invisible if you go too far off-screen and come back.
But wait. There's more.
The Mastermind.
It's Catarina. Spoilers, by the way. People have different opinions about the design of the fight. Some people think that the visual effects of the attacks, the relative scarcity of flask-granting adds, the indicators for how to progress the phases of the fight, and the area of denial mechanics that limit the viability of some build types within that fight are bad. Others think that her fight is the best thing since sliced bread. So the design of her fight is not necessarily a problem, though it's worth a mention because it's contentious.
What is a problem is how she interacts with the Syndicate. As GGG's own statistics have shown, players have still deemed it more punishing than not to actually complete her fight. Even after they adjusted her fight to give the rewards of the four safehouse leaders at the time of her defeat. Even though many of her dropped items are somewhat expensive thanks to a lack of supply. This is down to the Syndicate being a pain in the ass to manipulate and set back up (especially once you've locked undesirable members into undesirable branches and prefer to keep them that way) on top of her fight resetting the entire Syndicate's members and progress. In addition, if you fail the fight, you reset all of her progress . This isn't really important considering how people mostly only fight her for challenge-related purposes (and the loot is simply a byproduct), but it is noticeably more punishing than most other endgame boss fights. Shaper and Uber Elder can simply be fought again and are known to be tough but fair. Catarina is hardly so gracious. Even though it turns out she's always hiding in the Forbidden Vault, you've got to find her all over again.
If Betrayal goes core exactly as it is, barring some people who would like to get some of her exclusive crafts for services in the new league, I don't see why people would bother with her fight. It would still be more profitable to farm for scarabs and crafting benches than to screw up a painstakingly laid Syndicate.
Proposed solution to problem: To reiterate, the problems with the mechanics of the Syndicate include the binary choice system a la Incursion, the undesirable outcomes of any given Betrayal offer (including the interrogation option), the tedium caused by the random nature of said offers compounded with the fact that you only get a few choices in the matter, and the fact that progressing the Syndicate and getting better rewards from it has nearly no relation to high level content. Oh, and the Mastermind may as well not exist. Here are some options:
In closing, I would rather Betrayal get a "Bestiary" treatment if GGG doesn't have a game plan for how they're going to make it into core content. Better to wait a few months and do the job right than to botch it. Betrayal is tied to a lot of crafting options at the moment, but they could be moved to environmental Atlas recipes for the time being or veiled items could drop regardless of the Syndicate's presence in Wraeclast (a little odd to have a Veiled master without a Syndicate to fight though, hence why I'm fairly certain GGG already has something up their sleeve for this). GGG has invested a lot of resources into writing and polishing Betrayal and creatively engineering its mechanics, and it shows. Most content that GGG has ever made tends to return in one way or another, thanks to how asset use and systems design work in this game. It isn't a matter of "if", it's a matter of "when". I hope GGG makes the right calls on this and I look forward to what you guys think should be done.

I hate living in Israel

I moved to Israel six years ago.
How that happened:
I am Jewish (you probably guessed) and bought into the idea that it is our ancestral homeland.
After being taken on one of those free two weeks tours, I became captivated by the country and planned to move there. It took a few years of planning for that wish to come to fruition.
To be honest, I still believe in Jewish people's right to be here and that a Jewish country is the only natural environment for a Jew (particularly an observant one) to live in. I just happen not to like the one country that fits that criteria very much, or many of its citizens - and that also happens to be the country I live in!
I also believe that is Israel's responsibility to help realize a just and lasting solution to the Palestinian "problem". In my view, that is not reconcilable with endlessly occupying the land they live on and subjecting them to military law. But that aside...
The Israel I visited as a tourist and the Israel I live in as a citizen are like two completely countries. So much so that if I were a conspiracy theorist (I am not!), I would practically believe the whole thing was an illusion.

Manners (Or Lack Thereof)

For whatever reason, manners are virtually absent here.
The stereotypes are 100% true.
Maybe I missed that earlier? I'm not sure, because some people with parents who were born here have told me that people have become ruder and more aggressive over the years. I tend to believe it.
You buy stuff in the market and shopkeepers just glare at you and slam your change on the counter without even bothering to say "thank you".
I feel like if someone tried that in NYC they might be asking for a fight!
Not a single person in my building knows how to close their door. My table jars every few minutes from the vibration of people slamming their doors.
People play music at all hours. And blare private conversations over their phone's loudspeakers because they can't be bothered bringing the handset to their ears. This varies a little by city (Tel Aviv is slightly more refined), but in general the culture is incredibly inconsiderate. Shouting is very commonplace (of course, it's just a "friendly argument"), honking on the roads is incessant, and people are too inpatient and inconsiderate to be able to form a queue. People will push grandmothers out of the way to get on a bus sooner. If it weren't sad, it would be funny.
Social cohesion is sorely lacking, IMO, as evidenced by the massive amount of splinter and minority parties that form before every election.
Everybody is in a tribe or, if not, an "enemy" (read: an Arab).
The sad and blunt truth is that it's a crude, racist society that even has a problem with some of its own (see: treatment of Ethiopian Jews).
(BTW, this is something that gets discussed a lot among Jews that voluntarily move here. People come up with all manner of BS excuses to justify it. "It's directness." No, it's atrocious manners. "There are no words for basic courtesies in Hebrew". Yes, there are - open a dictionary! "It's Middle Eastern". Travel to Egypt and Jordan. People have manners there. Unfortunately, most people that have negative things to say about the country get silenced by the aggressive "nothing can be wrong here" brigade.)

Prices

Prices are insanely high and, as far as I can tell, the situation is only getting worse.
Generally, those prices are for crappy products imported from China and heavily marked up. Or the local stuff sold by a company that is part of an oligopoly and would never survive in a free market environment. Customer service is almost non-existent - or at least, has the local twist which is "the customer is always wrong". And of course - those wonderful overpriced products and services are sold to you by often rude ungrateful people.
Working here also flat out sucks, IMO.
The world has bought into the myth that Israel is a land of amazing startups where everybody is swimming in opportunity.
The reality is that more than 90% of the economy is employed in protectionist dysfunctional companies and Israel has one of the lowest per-capita productivity rates in the OECD (feel free to check the numbers - it's late at night here and I'm trying not to lose the 'flow' of this). It's capitalism with all the benefits taken out. The socialist/kibbutznik backbone that formed the society is dead. Income inequality, as measured by the Geni coefficient, is among the highest in the world.
If you're not a Java developer or help run one of the ports (don't ask - monopoly!) you can expect to be paid a salary roughly a third lower than the West - while living in one of the most expensive countries in the world. A good chunk of immigrants here are employed in scam industries, including (but not limited to) binary, forex, and other international "scams." They attempted to regulate these, but due to corruption and cronyism, largely failed. Just as they attempted to pass a fair rental law which had about the same result.
To add insult to injury ****, Israelis are C-H-E-A-P***\* in my opinion (given the pejorative Jewish-money stereotypes, I realize that this is something that would be problematic/difficult for a non-Jew to assert).
You see this in the workplace. You're expected to work like a slave while your miserly employer tries his best haggling skills to pay you as little as possible. Unsurprisingly, Israelis founded Fiverr and have proven very eager exponents of the offshoring model, where they can find people willing to work for even less than olim hadashim (Jewish immigrants). Israelis love bargaining and will treat anything that involves money as a game whereby they attempt to keep as much of it as possible.
In terms of conditions - the minimum number of vacation days are 12 while the working week is 45 hours. Again, for pretty miserable salaries. Public holidays, which are relatively few, do not roll over if they fall out on a weekend. In general, a cultural of professionalism is sorely lacking. My strongly held opinion is that the best have already left.
Also: a bunch of Israelis sponge off their families until well over their forties. The country is also awash with Jewish immigrants who mysteriously seem to survive despite never having held a job in their life. The explanation? Their familiar are sponsoring them.

Religious Coercion / Weekends

Because of the Jewish Sabbath (during which public transport does not run; shops start closing half-way through Friday), you never even really feel like you've had a proper weekend.
Property is the worst of all. Astronomically expensive.
Taxes on new cars are almost 100% so almost everybody drives beat-up second hand ones, if they have one at all (it's considered a luxury). And the standards of housing - from anybody comparing it to the West - is relatively abysmal. There's a great Facebook page with some photos of the worst rentals on the market. Even if you don't read Hebrew, just take a look at some of the photos.
The first generations that came here have done a nice job at monopolizing large segments of the market and housing stock so are well taken care of.
For virtually anybody else, their future is renting (from rude slumlords!)
Hotel prices are also outrageous, and there's the added insult of having to pay more for rooms if you're from the country. People here literally fly to Europe because it's cheaper than staycationing in this ripoff!
Want to console yourself about that with a nice mango? Even fruit here has become expensive recently. The only thing that's cheaper here than the West is healthcare and public transport. It's a great country to be on the breadline in. To thrive financially? Not so much.

Politics

The public endlessly votes for a lying, corrupt prime minister who has just let the parliament dissolve in his pathetic bid to avoid fraud charges.
The country is apparently rapidly descending into a religious dictatorship and nobody seems to care - yet it still has the nerve to call itself "the only democracy in the Middle East."
The school system is failing and a segment of the population which doesn't work or paid taxes (the ultra-Orthodox) have somehow wound up in the position where they pull all the political strings.
People, for a reason I can never understand, generally seem to simply accept the status quo.
They are content with simply surviving and not being obliterated by Iran/Hamas/Hizbullah. As someone that didn't grow up in that security environment, this seems baffling to me. I feel like grabbing hold of one of Netanyahu's voters and asking him/her "That's truly all you aspire towards?"
The most that happens is some journalist (automatically branded a "leftist" by the right-wing majority) writes some article in the Opinion section of Ha'aretz. The last time people got out on the street to protest in significant numbers was years ago (remember the cottage cheese protests?). In Greece, the riot police get called out to put down mass protests. Here, people are happy to simply survive (sort of).
Why does the average person here vote for Netanyahu?
You know, because things are so great here and some third-world tycoon has been to visit (this is advertised as "unprecedented diplomatic achievements.").
Oh, and the economy has "never been stronger" (even though the country also has an enormous poverty problem and many people are struggling to simply get by).
I have a bad habit of checking Google News every few hours.
Reading those articles just makes me angry.
But it's really nothing more than a reflection of how people are on the street.
Rude. Aggressive. Argumentative. Demanding. Always in the fricking right. Also locals here literally never apologize for anything (that would be considered too "weak" to fit in with the local culture).
There's also this weird fetish with strength and the military here that I find disturbing. You see it in slang a lot (an "explosion" also means a good thing, like "that party was an explosion" is an idiom for "that party was a great time").
Being human (such as letting somebody cut ahead of you in line at the supermarket because they only have a couple of items) is branded as "weakness" and frowned upon. As is having manners. To be honest, I believe that the culture here is best described as "sick".
Israel has made me feel like an old man, even though I'm far from that.
All I want, at this point, is a basic quality of life.
Things like a non-minuscule apartment in which to live. Decent professional opportunities that don't involve working for some (usually shady) startup simply trying to use my English to get some investor to pump money into them so they can offshore everything to the US. The possibility of a week's vacation in somewhere that isn't a dingy ripoff staffed by rude people! And to hear somebody say "thank you, have a nice day" when I buy an apple from them!
I travel abroad a couple of times a year and usually feel like I've stepped into another planet. It's like somebody is dispersing a fine mist of Valium from the air. Hard to put my finger on it but people just seem kind of sedate and relaxed!
People are less direct (I'll admit, I actually like the directness here!), but know basic manners, everything isn't overpriced, and people enjoy a real weekend! You can order stuff from Amazon and it actually arrives on time! Somehow, there's no shouting! People know how to actually form a line! You don't have to stand up for yourself simply to not be pushed over!
I'm planning my escape (among other things), but I have to hold this in every day until I get out. I don't feel comfortable telling this to my friends (I rebrand it as "I'm finding it difficult here" without going into details) and I can't exactly broadcast my feelings to the average person on the street.
The truth is that I'm not as miserable as I sound.
I've been doing some self-work recently just to cope with living here. Stress and all that.
My mindset has taken a shift to the positive. And I'm really grateful by how much it has helped.
But it doesn't make living here any less distasteful and actually made me much more inclined to write this here (why wouldn't I tell the world like it is - at least as I see it?).
BTW, I'm a real Reddit user but, because I'm paranoid about privacy, I set up a new account just to write this post.
So thank you, Reddit, for giving me the chance to put this into writing!
If you're also living, or have lived here, feel free to let me know your thoughts in the comments.
And if you haven't and are considering doing so, please take everything you have read and heard about the country with a pinch (actually, make that the entire carton-full) of salt!

SalesBrain Automated Instagram Chatbot

I love dropshipping. If gives regular Joes like you or I the opportunity to move high volumes of product without undertaking any of the inconvenient stuff like fullfillment, stock holding, merchant accounts etc.
So there's this software doing the rounds which I have been checking out. Its called SalesBrain and apparently its an instagram chat bot. I have some opinions after watching a couple of youtubers peddling this software.
One guy, who I won't mention because I am determined not to help propagate this, but if you Google Sales Brain there are only two youtubers talking about it. The one I refer to is the older of the two. Marginally older. This is a comment I left on his video.
8 and a half minutes of words without actually saying anything? A library of video's each saying the same thing as the last? The only other youtuber making videos about SalesBrain is in the same position. Talks with authority on a product for 5 or so videos without saying anything new. So what exactly am I getting at?
The fact is if this software was doing what these 'brand reps' are saying it will do, don't you realistically think more than 2 or 3 people would be talking about it? Seriously? THINK ABOUT IT.
It doesn't even make its own sub Reddit (only 2 or 3 mentions on Reddit - I get more mentions on Reddit than SalesBrain)? Yet its supposedly earning people $10k a month? Not for me bro.
Last time I saw a campaign like this it was for Binary Options? Remember that red hot niche?
Comprising of a magic piece of software which will do everything for you whilst you sleep? The lazy mans road to riches? Buy this software, switch it on, and sit back and count the money. Sound familiar?
A few (like, 1 or 2) youtubers making noise over a mysterious piece of software which (like the youtube videos themselves) disappear as quick as they arrived. Along with the money which the suckers 'invested'?
At this stage let me say with all sincerity, I am here to be proved wrong. If this stuff is doing what it says it can do tell the world? Shout it from the roof tops? I know I would. But no one is right? Its not new by any stretch of the imagination?
After dealing with Internet bullshit for almost 30 years I've seen it all before and I'm not buying SalesBrain.
Remember where you heard it first.
If you plan on opening up your instagram/shopify/paypal accounts to SalesBrain and its unknown administrators, who communicate ONLY through a message system which guarantees to destroy all message once read? I mean, good luck with that? There are other chatbots which will do similar things to what Sales Brain is supposed to do. With far less risk.
What would I do in your place? I mean an automated publicity draw which exposes you to thousands of insta accounts every week sounds cool right?
And thats easy. Look for social proof from tried and trusted sources. Google 'Instagram Automation 2019'. You will find lists and lists of the best chatbots (free and paid) all from trusted sources.
Whilst doing this I never had a single website, not 1, never, EVER, mention SalesBrain. Its either some exclusive shit? Or its a scam.
You're welcome.

Scam Emulators: a Guide

After each new console release, the immediate question for many is "how long till its games get ported to PC" or if that's not possible, like with Nintendo and Sony's first party releases, "how long till the console is emulated". Homebrew hobbyists and emulator devs aren't the only ones aware of this thirst, however. Opportunist sociopaths with far more sinister goals are more than eager to take advantage of gullible people craving new emulators for new consoles.
In the hopes of sparing more people the trouble of doing a complete system format for their malware-infected computers because of their own idiocy or that of an excitable idiot acquaintance, here's a guide that hopefully helps telling which emulators are real and which are that just in name.
#1: If it's too soon after the console release, it's suspicious
In order for an emulator to be developed, the console first needs to be hacked first so that the following are extracted
The developers need to be able to execute unlicensed code on it to test hardware behavior and properly document it (the latter is sometimes possible with a developer unit, although it might have some limitations). You need to hear of someone reputable managing to load a "hello world" unlicensed program on a console (NOT a web page on a browser, or a video). After all, they need to be able to code their own demos, see how it looks on hardware, and have their hypothetical emulator replicate that behavior.
There's lots of work before an emulator can even boot up the most basic of "hello world" demos. Correct hardware memory mapping, timings, console boot-up initializations (even when spoofing services and processes like home menus)... can easily take up a lot of work. This is when hardware documentation provided by the console and GPU manufacturers is useful, and without those this part of development can be set back even further. And even then it doesn't discount cases where the console manufacturer withholds some information from the documentation either missing it in translation or on purpose (like Nintendo with a whole audio mode in GC games).
And then after booting simple demos, it can be a while before the first commercial games (often the simpler one, the shittiest ones, or 2D stuff) are booted.
Between the actual console hacking, and then preliminary work on a PC emulator getting up to a point it's usable, this can take easily 2 to 3 years. For example, CEMU, often cited as an example of an emulator with impressively fast development, took 2 years of research and internal experiments after the Wii U was hacked to make a demo only able to boot the decidedly not that flashy Shovel Knight and NES Remix.
Of course, exceptions exist like the GBA which had its emulator available around the American release (and before the European one), but this was more due to a combination of a massive developer kit leak before the Japanese release, and poor hardware security. Those early emulators were still not without their flaws either. Or the even rarer case of an in-house Nintendo emulator leaking like what happened with Ensata (for the Nintendo DS) in 2005 (Sony and Nintendo do make PC emulators for their consoles, in addition to the traditional setup of dev kits linked to PCs for logging stuff, but they don't release those emulators for obvious reasons).
#2: If it looks too perfect from the get-go, it's very suspicious
Emulators often don't implement everything in their first releases. Models can be warped, audio may be not supported or oddly-pitched, transparency can be nonexistent and as a result you'd see black rectangles everywhere, lightning and fog effects might not even be there, and so on. Often, the one thing working just like intended would be videos and static images.
If you see perfect footage of a complex 3D game that looks just like in real hardware, consider the high likelihood it was indeed recorded off real hardware with a capture card (or just lifted from a trailer / let's play).
Some scams have evolved their methods and would slow the video down with distorted audio. One of the more innovative scams used models ripped from other versions (likely PC) of Street Fighter IV, had them in wireframe over a white backdrop and with a HP bar shopped on top and tried to pass this static screenshot as "the first 3DS emulator".
#3: If it's just a binary released, exercise caution
Scams like these often come as binaries or installers. Installers are NOT standard procedure for emulators as they are perpetual buggy alphas that get updated all the time with not even bothering to keep save state compatibility. Sites usually get basic information about the hardware incorrect.
These programs will either come with no source code, or when they do actually bother making a source code (like the emu3DS scam) it actually does nothing, or the github code repository is empty aside from readme files like with the recent Nintendo Switch scam (to get with the times since more emulators now are open source than closed source). The name will be something simple ("switchemulator" "ps4-emulator") or iterating on an existing big name from earlier generations (3DesmumE, NO$GBA 3D, a Dolphin version with Wii U emulation on youtube with download links -and no it's not the wud file browser fork-...) to maximize search engine hits from idiots.
Sometimes, scamware include newer versions of dead emulators, like the fabled NO$GBA 2.7 (which was just the latest version, functional but laced with malware). One of the more innovative scams played ".3ds" "roms" which were actually 3DS videos, and the emulator was just a video player for those... with malware. But to its credit, it actually did run something by Nintendo. (the actual work on that video codec was by someone else though)
Until this subreddit, or other more reputable modding circles, report on a new emulator, and until semi-reputable sites like emucr host it, if a new emulator that nobody heard of besides you is too good to be true then it probably is.
What is it like to get a scamware emulator?
This blog documents some of the more notorious 3DS scams before the Citra days, and it makes for a good reading.
Parts of the scamware experience includes:
I don't believe you!! Why would someone tell lies on the internet?
The "developer" gets money from advertisments and surveys. Better if they're directly served to you and rooted in your computer as malware redirecting your browser to ads, logging your personal data, or using your machine's ressources to mine bitcoins for someone else.
Some vocal minority of open source advocates unfortunately label any recent closed-source emulator as a virus (even after it's proven false), and it doesn't help many new programs that are not regularly downloaded or ones coded directly in assembly (because hacked programs rewrite some parts of a compiled build in assembly "hacked" on the program like an external tumor tied with hooks and JMP opcodes) are often labeled by anti-virus suites as false positives. In these cases, the best thing to do is to wait for someone else to verify it works, or trust the developer in case he/she proved himself to be the real deal when it comes to homebrew development or reverse engineering the hardware in question.

void salad

There's so much good material in Critical Shower Thoughts, you as a community should feel proud. Here's some of my favorites from among the stuff you voted to the top.
from u/RMFN 's Retribalization in the age of illiteracy. Prepare to have your mind blown like Zeus birthing Athena.
Instantaneous electronic communication has made the whole world the size of an iPhone. Electronic media has the effect of making the ordinary individual gigantic. Post literacy has created a society that does not have time to read. When knowledge is everywhere and instantaneous it becomes impossible to effectively absorb. Television is a mythic and myth making medium. The shadows taken for truth on Plato's cave are the flashes and sounds of our HDTV sets.
Everything that is flashed on the screen creates a self luminous two dimensional avatar of a physically real object removed from time and space. Once television melded itself onto the realm of leisure sports the televisual tribe was born. The realm of sports has made a neo tribal structure based on the digital geography of the time slot and not ethnicity. The sports team itself does not unify the individuals who follow the team. No, it is the ritual battle of the televised avatars that creates the tribal ties.
Now every individual is imitating the metamorphosis made by Elvis from man to a two dimensional electronic media avatar. This is the age of personal mythology. The persona or mask has replaced the individual in the form of the electric two dimensional avatar. People live through their facebook avatar and no longer live their lives. It is the individual trying to form their own personal myth in a world without the traditional unifying sign regime of Christian iconography. The personal myth fills the void left by the death of god.
from u/cro_magnet 's "Cultural Marxism is a war on Oxytocin"
Do you think just because you manufacture your own supply of a molecule, in the core of your brain, that war can't be waged on it? Oxytocin is a peptide hormone produced in the hypothalamus, deep in our limbic system near the brainstem. It is stored in - and released from - our pituitary gland, AKA the "master" gland. Oxytocin has a half-life of about 3 minutes in the blood, so its effects are very short-lasting, but it initiates a cascade of positive hormonal events that reinforce overall health and pro-social behavior. Its release is especially affinitive to touch: a hug, a handshake, even a Duchenne smile can evoke it... it's enmeshed in the intricate nonverbal dance, the largely subconscious symphony of communication linking all humanity. It's also intimately involved in father-child bonding, lactation, wound healing, sexual arousal, and orgasm (when again, its release is copious).
Oxytocin release reduces fear and anxiety, quelling the amygdalae (crucial dangealert neurostructures) and suppressing the stress hormone cortisol. It evokes contentment, enabling feelings of calmness and security by inhibiting overactive brain regions associated with behavioural control. Deprived of it, we are scattered, timid, and paranoid: shut inside ourselves. Trust is increased by oxytocin: it affects social distance and friendship, and plays an essential role in romantic attraction and subsequent monogamous pair-bonding. We find receptors for it in the heart, and in the vomeronasal organ, which is directly wired to both the hypothalamus and the amygdalae. Thus we detect it pheromonally, and when bonding in person, this facilitates mutual positive feedback.
The Western cultural mindset has its feet rooted in the bedrock of Ice Age Europe. Its ethos of openness, cooperation, stoicism, and personal sacrifice towards the future of the community was an adaptation to the harsh environment. It made sense to help strangers and contribute. Cultural Marxism exploits this deep-rooted template. It operates chiefly through the manipulation of language and managing mass-perception, and its most effective adherents are indeed uniquely talented in their capacity for the generation of new terms and symbols and the redefinition and recontextualization of old ones, often flipping them into new meanings exactly opposite from original. This is something Orwell foresaw with great prescience. The thinking style it engenders has gained dominance over the channels through which information and opinion are disseminated, principally academia and media, and is now being standardized as the "official" cultural framework of business.
from u/depdepdepdepdepdepdp 's I believe men are the more emotional sex and that our stereotypes of men are based on conditioning, rather than inborn traits
Tears. Men do not cry less easily because they prevent themselves from doing so. Male tear ducts are shaped differently (making it more difficult to cry) and the tear wells are deeper (meaning men can "tear up" without shedding tears - women cannot). Men have fewer chemicals that allow for the shedding of tears than women, and more testosterone, which hinders tear production.
from u/magnora7 's The problem with being moderate now is that the right thinks you're pushing leftist talking points, and the left thinks you're pushing rightist talking points. In this way, the center is abolished, and only extremism is allowed to exist. This polarizes the culture which makes it easier to control.
When everyone is pushed to extremes by this mechanism, society becomes this dichotomy that is easy to control. If everyone is forced in to one of two categories by the mechanisms of public shame, with no grey area allowed in between, then the owners of our country can predict easily what the two sides will do. It makes the two sides have more power than the middle just by sheer population, which means conflict is inevitable between the two sides, and thus the country.
from u/elnegroik 's Tulsi Gabbard is a member of CFR- Council on Foreign Relations. She's being primed for 2020 as controlled opposition to perpetuate the illusion of duality. The following are a series of observations from my recent post on conspiracy. I'm keen to be challenged so please don't be shy.
The reason that presidential candidates’ promises of “change” go largely unfulfilled once in office: they draw their top personnel from the same establishment groups — of which the Trilateral Commission is only one. Chief among these groups is the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR), the most visible manifestation of what some have called the American establishment. Members of the council have dominated the administrations of every president since Franklin D. Roosevelt, at the cabinet and sub-cabinet level. It does not matter whether the president is a Democrat or Republican. As we will see, Barack Obama is no exception to CFR influence. Effective way to close a prospect is by pitching a the extreme choice as an anchor, so when you offer the moderate option (the one you always wanted to offer) the disparity makes compliance easier.
They've been controlling the political dialogue since their inception, with a revolving door straight into the White House. You suggest I may be hasty in indicting her as controlled opposition before she's done anything- I disagree. I'm being prudent, in delaying my endorsement until the concerns I have are addressed. It seems unlikely Gabbard will reach office and choose that point to disavow herself from the organisation that's provided the apparatus for her predecessors. When she doesn't, it's a given she'll proceed to fill her cabinet with the exact same CFR characters that have populated her predecessors. Voila! -synthetic change occurs and the false dichotomy continues.
from u/911bodysnatchers322 's The Occult is a type of intelligence test
If, however, you take the activity of studying the occult seriously, you start to see things. First and foremost, that the world is made of language, and that your interface to language is through symbols. And through symbols, one is able to understand not only language but the evolution of culture, the evolution of civilization. For example, what does a symbol mean and how did it 'acquire' that meaning and by which groups in history. If one group adopts a symbol, then you can pretty much be sure they came in contact with another group that also used that symbol. We take 'found things' and make them ours. We build our culture, like a raven's nest, out of the shiny, or the scratchy, or colorful things we pick up along the way. We grab things along the way, suggesting we were in an specific area, or along a specific path.
So to my mind, if you don't have definitive hard 'proof', but you have polyangulation, then you have a very good reason for your suspicions, as they are based on oblique coincidences that are almost an attempt to mock you by telegraphic covert allegiances. In the case of google, we have at least one hard proof of their connection to cia, and that's enough to form a betrayal of their customers, and enough to give us reason to keep an eye on them. But just one eye. For now.
from u/omenofdread 's Many Americans are unaware that they are de facto Satanists.
According to a few sources, (allegedly, as I am not a Satanist) Satanism is pretty much all about the four tenets: Service to self above all else, moral relativism, social darwinism, and eugenics. That's really all you need. In the same way that a "good christian" can go about his life without entering a church, just by living The Golden Rule, many Americans are going about their lives completely unaware that they are "good Satanists". Like it or not, the US has a bunch of really dark symbolism going on its currency and several of its "great seals". You may not "believe" in these kinds of things, but they did, and they do.
from u/Wolfwoman1210 's There's no grand conspiracy there's just a whole bunch of privileged assholes ruling the world and all they are doing is feeding their own egos and bank balances until the day they die and then their children get to take over.
I've worked in government and I've seen the same mentality there, people who think they know what's best for everyone else, people who are screaming for attention & a pay-rise, coming up with ridiculous controls and plans simply because they think they know what is best and because they have other people's money to spend. You know what you morons? I don't believe you ever got past Piaget's formal operational stage and you are screwing up the world not because you are clever but because you have way too much money or more brains than sense. These people have no mental capacity to truly think about the abstract and therefore cannot even conceive of the multi-faceted ramifications of their actions or they are so caught up in self that they don't even care to try & think about it.
So for now I am going to focus on what makes me happy and that's the simple things like looking at nature, sitting amongst it, breathing it in, just admiring the beauty of this world. That's all I need in this life other than the usual food, shelter & water, I just wish it was all everyone else needed to feel happy. So current plan of attack is, to ride this wave, enjoy the beauty in this world that does still exist, teach my children to see the beauty, be kind to others when it doesn't feed another ego, and hope, hope is all I have. Anyone got better ideas?
from u/murphy212 's The Real Conspiracy of History - the biggest scam is not that it's a lie, but that it focuses on the recitation of war crimes committed by psychopathic conspirators.
It took me years to realize this wasn't an organic, random occurrence. It's part of the big lie. From what I gather America is somewhat exempted from that ubiquitous statist paradigm. They use over there another method: schools barely teach history anymore (no offense to Americans). And the little they teach still suffers from the same statist bias (e.g. how Lincoln was such a great president for waging war on his countrymen). Do you know the name Thomas Newcomen? I didn't either. He invented the atmospheric engine in 1712, which heralded the start of the industrial revolution. Or George Stephenson? He is responsible for the locomotive and thus the historical transcontinental American railway system. These are important historic events, and people, and yet they are barely ever mentioned.
Humans came up with the idea of the shipping container in the 19th century. Before that, goods were handled individually as break bulk cargo; unloaded one at a time from the boat onto the carriage, and vice versa. A standardized transportation box would have been a great idea in Antiquity (they had quite effective manual cranes). They were smart, they did tremendous commerce, and yet they didn't think of it. For many millennia nobody had thought of putting the stuff in a big box. The "container revolution" is directly responsible for an increase in world commerce of 700% in just 20 years. This is much larger than the effects of all so-called "free trade" agreements.
The point is made. So what is the truth? Stochastic and distributed innovation is, has always been, and will always be, in aggregate, superior to monolithic, centrally planned undertakings. This is an observable fact of nature: unilateral action, trial and error, and competition are what characterize it. This is why Wikipedia is superior to Britannica, Linux superior to Windows, or crypto-currencies superior to fiat money; this is also why economic freedom is congruent with prosperity, and why freedom of expression is a thing. They trust only the organized collective - with themselves atop. Arguments such as "military research and wars help scientific innovation" are complete and utter bullcrap.
from u/BrapAllgood 's Your Primary Energy Source
I don't want to give you all of my own patterns, though, I just wanna help you find yours. I'll be happy to revisit the subject another day, share more of my personal rituals, but right now I just want you to get yours going...and explore, wouldya? Also...anyone here tend towards wild emotions? I guarantee you that you suck at breathing, for starters-- and too much of a good thing can be a bad thing, too-- it's not about quantity, it's about quality. Proper breathing centers you by reaching a parity of being. If you learn to breathe properly AND DO IT, you will find yourself a new person, not the...I'm not pulling this punch: not the asshole you normally can be to others and yourself. o_o And this goes deeper than I'm willing to this day. Just sayin'...if I get too 'newage', people like to turn off and give themselves that excuse to do so...but there's a deeper layer here and it's as invisible as your breath usually will be.
If you find yourself winding up inside, getting tense, anxious-- any of that sort of language being needed to describe it, you can STOP, close your eyes or lose their focus, whatever works for you, and even one minute of 4x4 can reset you. Again, there's a deeper layer available as to the why, but it will also just encourage argument, which I have no interest in-- believe what you like, even if it's dumb. I'll be okay. :) Food, water, shelter-- none have meaning without your breath. Love, hate? Need breath. It all needs breath, which needs breathing, so it's damn time you learn this Human Skill. No other one human is likely to give you what you need for this, but YOU ARE THE ONE to figure it out for yourself. You need to be able to sit and breathe and know you are doing something, not nothing. Make that a goal, if you haven't achieved it yet.
from u/LightBringerFlex 's I spent a full year studying the matrix. I'm not done yet, but this is what I found so far.
The 5 personality points of God are listed below. It is also important to know that God represents the self actualized mind. We are all aiming to become God once again after a massive decent from the God head. Keep in mind, God doesn't do anything unless it has a purpose so these 5 personality points, which he himself created as he precedes everything including things like Love, Fun, Freedom, Unity, Peace; This is who we all are at the very core of our self actualized mind. One of the purposes of the matrix is to achieve this over multiple lifetimes. The matrix is a section of God which is darkened. What God wanted to do was descend in 2 separate levels where he loses most of his power and yet has needs/desires just like he does in infinity although all of his desires are met in infinity.
So God makes the matrix by using multiple big bangs. The matrix occasionally has game changing moments and each planet also has game changing moments. The nucleus in the center is infinity and the center works like a monster 3rd printing machine that prints copies of multiple things such as the Nebula. Around the nucleus is a universe outside of time space. Outside of that are the 4 outerspace regions where only particles remain. The lowest descenders start off as particles and work their way inward towards the nucleus over multiple lifetimes. Ignorance involves not knowing what to do and believing incorrect actions are correct actions. The ego's main job is to act as the devil on the left shoulder thereby adding challenge to the matrix game and giving us total free will on which path to choose. We can choose the ego or we can choose life itself. The ego's main job is to drive people into insanity and the intuitions main job is to save people from insanity.
We were growing so he came in and gave us the inside scoop that God really is love, forgiveness restores burned bridges which is important for productivity and quality of life, that all the religions were wrong and misleading us, and finally the ego convinced the local religious cabal to kill Jesus "because he was so perfect that he was a blasphemy to God since God says none of us are perfect". Jesus was the first one to call out fear based religion as bullshit however, we still run fear based religions! He knows that we are in a matrix and he knows the worst possible outcomes. He knows how people go insane and why. This matrix is more of a dream than reality because none of this can actually happen in reality so the matrix had to be made for us to experience ungodliness. After this life is over, we all meet up in infinity and laugh it all off.
So, what God wants is that each person uses God consciousness to walk the earth with God's power in a magic wand. That magic want stems in a superconcious part of our minds and the tunnel to it is the intuition. The intuition is labeled as the highest/clearest thought in the mind. His enemies would go to arrest him and change their minds because he "says such wonderful things." He was fearless, highly optimistic powerhouse of a man, yet still humble, very loving and people were shocked when he kept his calm, peaceful posture upon his death sentencing. He looked like everything was perfectly ok in court waiting for them to finish. He was completely unphased and in peace even when they sentenced him to death. He loved the animal savage as much as he loved the spiritually enlightened. He loved the criminal as much as the cop. He only hated error. Note: Good and evil are really progress and regress. Politics is spirituality in action. Spirituality is learning how large sectors of life work together and how life behaves as one big organism.
As far as our planet goes, in a nutshell, we have a problem. The elite are acting like cancer on the planet since they don't realize we are all the same person in essence and most everyone is heading into different directions. A planet must operate as clockwork and we are at a point of either self-destruction or we will enter the golden age of mankind. The problem with the Muslims is that they militarized their religion. The Christians made the mistake of turning every heavenly pleasure into a sin (i.e. Making money, sex, managerial power). The Jews made the mistake of thinking they are a chosen people which is common among primitive people. Education is problematic because they teach us everything except how to do a job properly. They also separate age groups instead of forcing older kids to teach the younger students which in turn, locks the info in memory. Representative government is good but you need to put angelic geniuses in power, not greedy selfish monsters. Also people need to be a part of politics and not just sitting on the sidelines. I'll leave you with a quote from masterpiece Conversations With God: "If you knew how much the elite were holding back from society, you would kill them with your bare hands."
from u/twiceblessedman 's Four words you may need to hear.
We're working on fixing this together, even if we're separate. Despite his flaws, at his core, man is good-willed, and we'll be able to solve the problems of our species. With the advent of computers and a global internet, we are now able to share knowledge and ideas with virtually anyone on the planet -- who knows what might spark the creative drive of the next Da Vinci or Tesla? The point is that there's a much greater chance of that young genius coming to fruition if everybody has access to the collective human knowledge gained by the work of our predecessors. Anyone on the planet could have the right brain to solve global warming or the energy crisis because who knows the recipe for genius? If we want our species to advance and prosper, we need to raise problem-solvers who can solve the critical problems facing our world today.
When you get down to it, language can be simply defined as the shared mental associations with certain patterns. We see these meaningful combinations of lines or hear a meaningful combination of vibrations and we interpret it as a certain word, which in turn elicits an idea that is, on average, the same as other people's idea of that word. And as I understand it, neuroplasticity is basically the brain's ability to make the connections between neurons (neural pathways) and that's what makes those pattern-idea associations possible. So if we consider the whole "critical period" for language acquisition, the question becomes: do we lose the ability to truly learn more about the patterns of the world at a certain age? My theory is no, we do not lose that ability. But we also do not use it, so it atrophies. Anyway, play puzzle games, they help you loosen up those pathways.
from u/Axana 's Revisiting “Curious George": A dark tale about a prisoner who happily forgets he is living in a prison.
The native is living peacefully in nature until the system, literally called “The Man” in this story, invades his paradise armed with a gun. The native is forced into an utterly foreign and unnatural lifestyle, and is then severely punished by the law for not understanding it. Despite multiple attempts to escape this oppressive civilization, the native always comes back to his captors. The native then happily accepts his new prison and eventually forgets his old, peaceful, free life in nature. What if this is the history of humanity? Were we uprooted from paradise (the Garden of Eden?), forced by The Powers That Be into a system that generates physical, mental, and spiritual suffering, and then collectively forgot over the generations that we are prisoners are living in a free range prison?
from u/taomark 's Everyone else has already evolved. All the Synchronicity you experience is everybody shouting back to you to get you to wake up.
The idea is, YOU (Or I) are the last one to evolve. Everyone else has moved on to the next "stage," and you're the last hold up. All the people you see in the world around you are not separate people, they are just different ways of being Not-You, that you're experiencing subjectively. You're not seeing other people, you're seeing patterns of light and energy, and you are the one entitizing them with personality, the source of which is your own Self. The reason they can't just tell me directly is presumably because of the distance between us. In this metaphor, the vertical distance of the well shaft is the equivalent of evolutionary progress through dimensions of consciousness. The language that the folks at the top of the well are shouting in is far beyond what I'm capable of processing with my limited bottom-of-the-well consciousness. Instead of being able to say, "Dude, you're in a well. Follow my voice and climb out", the message ends up taking the form of a narrative of synchronicity and symbolic happenings, slowly but surely guiding me toward the realizations I need to be able to move on from this place.
Sometimes, when I've been in the midst of super bizarre experiences, and when my research into esoterics is starting to get very real, I start to see and hear everyone differently. I feel like they all get it, but they can't just come out and say it. They all can only hint at it, and there's this unspoken understanding that they know exactly where I'm at. I'm even talking about complete strangers, people driving by in traffic, people at the supermarket. They all get it. They all know. They're waiting for me to get it, dropping hints and giving me secret looks. Sometimes it's gotten so intense that I've become honestly afraid that I'm cultivating schizophrenia, and I drop all of my research and try not to think about any of this stuff. Does anyone know what on Earth I'm talking about
from u/LEGALinSCCCA 's Cities disgust me
I look around at all of these people, doing all of this wrong stuff, because they refuse to educate themselves. For example, eating sugar and processed crap. Aggressiveness and rudeness. Gangs, drugs, sex, greed etc. Nature and lack there of. Willingness to help. Pollution. They often have devastating drug problems. There are definitely rude people. There are authoritarians the too. It's just, the city is like a prison without walls. It's not safe, it's unhealthy, it's bad for you, it disconnects your spirit from nature.
from u/2birds1bone 's Food has been weaponized
So I just completed my second month of the Whole 30 diet. Only organic, free-range, grass-fed food. Fairly expensive to eat this way and.. I feel fucking amazing. Better then I've felt in 20 years (I'm 35). Our mainstream food supply is fucking poison. It disrupts your hormonal balance and toxifys your brain. I'm not going to shill for the Whole 30 diet specifically, but try eating organic and cut out sugar or dairy. It may change your life.
from u/mtryp 's Haunting Nostalgia
Have you ever driven down familiar roads at night, places where your soul was paradoxically tormented, yet soared highest at the same time? When you were the confident person you used to be, the one who took on this matrix, this conspiracy head first, and now you collide with the fragile mess that you've become? Have the disorienting lights and noise pollution which fill the darkness around you, ever hit you all at once, and you literally feel every single lie, slicing through your senses? This 21st century, to you, feels like we're living in the distant past. While everyone around you is boasting about their new smart phone, or talking about whatever hypnosis is being spewed from the TV, you're quietly contemplating all the exotic energy technologies that could literally heal our planet, our bodies, our lives. According to your intuition, your higher self, this is the distant past. Everything you know to be true is inverted within surface reality.
You know that everything is energy, and energy fields can be manipulated in a positive way, to heal your own personal ailments, so you take whatever you can get, whatever suppressed technology slips through the cracks. Your body unfortunately lives in the distant past, yet your mind and soul live within the infinite potentials that you know exist. This division creates immense pain, causes you to self destruct physically and emotionally. The more you learn about the actual reality of things, the more distance keeps growing between you, and everyone you know and love, because their minds and souls are trapped in the distant past. You lose people, because you can no longer relate; you live in the real world, and you're tired of faking it, to be superficially accepted in the pseudo world. It's the isolating journey of a spiritual warrior. And so you come here, because at this point in your journey, this is the closest place to home.
from u/murphy212 's If you realize all your sensory experiences, emotions and thoughts are projections on a screen, and if you learn to notice the screen, and the light that shines on it, you will achieve self-realization and peace.
The number one existential fact is the answer to the question: "who am I?". To that question, I can only reply "I am conscious". So the question becomes: "what is consciousness?" A corollary to that is: "is it fundamental in the universe, or is matter the fundamental, prime component?" If however consciousness is a fundamental substance in the universe, these are not only chemical reactions, they have an absolute quality. In a nutshell, a particle of matter is a wave (probability) function up until it "collapses" (i.e emerges into reality) when it is observed (more precisely, when an observer is made aware of it). So particles exist in reality insofar as they exist as "knowledge" in an observer's mind. This is what contemporary science teaches us. Intent produces and drives the universe, and everything inside it. Even rocks. You are consciousness. The material world you experience is an illusion. here is a substrate that is common to all your experiences, something that's already there, always present, an observer, an "I", that allows for everything to exist in your realm; if you sense it once, you'll know; at first it'll provoke a small (kind of) (existential) "vertigo". It is sensed by simply asking yourself "who am I", not trying to answer through the mind, but rather by trying to "touch" that underlying feeling, substance.
from u/Vich88 's The Trivium
The trivium works as grammar (acquiring knowledge) which is then processed by logic (who, what, where, when, why and how, basically critical thinking) followed by rhetoric which is an ability to speak about or teach the ideas you have learned and stabilized by logic. This is the method to acquire the ability of how to learn rather than what to be told and then repeat with the belief of that being an education. As I study this I realize how immature I am with critical thinking and how the system has sculpted me to just repeat and not think for myself.
from u/420baker 's The apocalypse is upon us..
Apocalypse (Ancient Greek: ἀποκάλυψις apokálypsis, from ἀπό and καλύπτω meaning "uncovering"), translated literally from Greek, is 'through the concealed', meaning a disclosure of knowledge, i.e., a lifting of the veil or revelation. In religious contexts it is usually a disclosure of something hidden, “a vision of heavenly secrets that can make sense of earthly realities" Basically, the point of my post is to change your understanding of the word, next time you see the latest end of days movie or see anything referring to the apocalypse, you know it's true meaning, it is not death and destruction, it is to bring truth, a revelation if you will to help us evolve. Do not let fear into your world. An afterthought: We are in the information age, the internet is still young and we all know it isn't being used to it's full potential. We have the tools, just not the know how. It will come.
from u/ge01f 's Improving the bicamerality of your brain, improving the communication between the hemispheres
If you look at animals, and look at their eyes, you can see that the apex predators of their realm (as we are, in some ways) like tigers and lions and bears, they have no darting of the eyes. No noticeable saccades. They might still saccade, but it is not like modern civilized people do it, and my thinking on this current is that it is because they are not neurotic, and we are. When compared to aboriginal people, I have the same impression: they are not neurotic, and we are. Once you know the process, new exercises are easier to describe, and you can make up your own, once you understand the patterns, and you can learn more about the patterns to start making your own patterns as well. You have all the information available to you, if you can use it.
from u/CharCzard 's MEMEs ARE MAGIK...
It seems that there is only one law regarding spirituality that can be quantified by science. The law of attraction. But hidden in this law, is the ability to attract as-of-yet formless things, and make them manifest on earth. Whether those formless things we are able to will into existence really are products of our imagination, or just pre-existing jungian archetypes seems to be a 'chicken or the egg' type of situation.. but regardless, The law of attraction is the basis of any synchronistic phenomenon we all might experience throughout our lives.. the universe is simply manifesting our conscious or unconscious desires into reality. The belief, is that if enough people will something, the universe will manifest it. If done correctly, what else is a meme other than the proselytizing of an idea, that spreads throughout the collective, whom subsequently yearn (if unconsciously) for a manifestation? MEMEs can literally be talismans, in every definition and understanding of the word.. the infusion of a symbol, with an idea, and a shared cultural experience (ritual).
if i had to take a guess as to how this works... "Gods" are archetypes of what Jung called "the collective unconscious." They exist as archetypal patterns whose traits manifest in man and are thereby recognizable in this way because the only way to freely interact with the divine is through nature which we are a part of. The traits are deemed what is best in man and reoccur enough that they are in effect deified by their very nature of reoccurring and never being forgotten, for they reside in the blood memory of a race and continue as long as a people do. I'd assume it'd be that all of these "lesser" (but still awe-inspiringly powerful nonetheless) deities are either memetic archetypes, or preexisting lifeforms/conscious entities of their own right with incredible power that have been understandably-mistaken for at/the god. I would also to like to expand on how this relates to propaganda. It is important to note that all of these archetypes will appear on their own through stories.
from u/pieceofchance 's The grand deception: Binary Thinking
Crucially, when you begin thinking in threes, all of your knowledge begins to come under far more scrutiny than previously – you can't think in threes without adopting the principles of fallibilism. Fallibilism is quite simple in essence, and is also the foundation of the scientific method; it is the axiom that no matter what we believe, our knowledge ever remains possibly wrong and open to revision. It is ever possible that new information or a new interpretation on old information can radically change everything we believe, and it is only on this basis that we can have any assurance of our conclusions. It is only through such a process and with such an approach to the nature of epistemology that knowledge can become legitimate. The grounds upon which we can make a claim to knowledge cannot be littered with hypotheses we hold beyond proof of their illegitimacy, and we must be prepared, if we are in search of knowledge, to cast aside what we believe to be true as being in fact wrong with less hesitation than if we were to be learning a new fact or word or term for something already known.
The tapestry of reality may be much more complex than you imagine. A thing can at once exist in many manifestations: a being, a vibration, a colour and sound (both just vibrations), a musical note and an entire endless symphony, fractal in composition. The same thing can also manifest as what may be otherwise considered binary opposites, an example of this might be that you can only ever hate another person as much as you have loved them. In binary thinking (as in the scale repeated to us ad nauseum of the polarity between love and fear), these emotions (expressions of Secondness) are opposites, but you know intimately that this is just not true. When observed from a perspective removed from time and chronology, when a life is viewed in its completeness of becoming (in a circle), every expression of hate overlaps in a perfect sine wave with the measure of expression of love.
from u/iamablackbeltman 's The Plan
We want the best future. We offer them contraception that they might indulge every sexual desire with no long term repercussion. We offer them ethanol that they might distance themselves from their sorrows for a while. We offer them a platform with which they might exchange ideas with people all over the earth in an instant with the hope they might stumble upon the right ideas. For the people too busy to alter course for long, we have provided plants, fungi, and lab-synthesized chemicals that they might pause for a moment and realize that life can be something different. We use fear that the cream might rise to the top. Be the fittest you can knowing you are constituted of ideas. We love you.

Tacotime mentioned a hard fork proposal to never let the block reward drop below 1 coin:
Code: if (blockReward < 1){ blockReward = 1; }
I assume this is merely delaying the problem, however. I proposed a fixed annual debasement (say 2%) with a tx fee cap of like 0.001% of the current block reward (or whatever sounds reasonable). That way we still get the spam protection without worrying about fee escalation down the road."

-2059: I was skeptical of this conspiracy theory at first but after thinking about the numbers and looking back at the code again, I'm starting to believe it.
These are not deep optimizations, just cleaning up the code to work as intended.
At 100 H/s, with 500k iterations, 70 cycles per L3 memory access, we're now at 3.5 GHz which is reasonably close. So the algorithm is finally memory-bound, as it was originally intended to be. But as delivered by the bytecode developers not even close.
I know this is going to sound like tooting our own horn but this is another example of the kind of dirty tricks you can expect from the 80% premine crowd and the good work being done in the name of the community by the Monero developers.
Assuming they had the reasonable, and not deoptimized, implementation of the algorithm as designed all along (which is likely), the alleged "two year history" of bytecoin was mined on 4-8 PCs. It's really one of the shadiest and sleaziest premines scams yet, though this shouldn't be surprising because in every type of scam, the scams always get sneakier and more deceptive over time (the simple ones no longer work)."

Once MRO value increases a lot, block penalties will become more critical of an issue. Pools will fix this issue by placing a limit on number and size of transactions. -3283: "Most of the previous "CPU only" coins are really scams and the developers already have GPU miner or know how to write one. There are a very few exceptions, almost certainly including this one.
I don't expect a really dominant GPU miner any time soon, maybe ever. GPUs are just computers though, so it is certainly possible to mine this on a GPU, and there probably will be a some GPU miner, but won't be so much faster as to put small scale CPU miners out of business (probably -- absent some unknown algorithmic flaw).
Everyone focuses on botnets because it has been so long since regular users were able to effectively mine a coin (due to every coin rapidly going high end GPU and ASIC) that the idea that "users" could vastly outnumber "miners" (botnet or otherwise) isn't even on the radar.
The vision here is a wallet that asks you when you want to install: "Do you want to devote some of you CPU power to help secure the network. You will be eligible to receive free coins as a reward (recommended) [check box]." Get millions of users doing that and it will drive down the value of mining to where neither botnets nor professional/industrial miners will bother, and Satoshi's original vision of a true p2p currency will be realized.
That's what cryptonote wants to accomplish with this whole "egalitarian mining" concept. Whether it succeeds I don't know but we should give it a chance. Those cryptonote guys seem pretty smart. They've probably thought this through better than any of us have."

-3571: "Tacotime wanted the thread name and OP to use the word privacy instead of anonymity, but I made the change for marketing reasons. Other coins do use the word anonymous improperly, so we too have to play the marketing game. Most users will not bother looking at details to see which actually has more privacy; they'll assume anonymity > privacy. In a world with finite population, there's no such thing as anonymity. You're always "1 of N" possible participants.
Zero knowledge gives N -> everyone using the currency, ring signatures give N -> your choice, and CoinJoin gives N -> people who happen to be spending around the same amount of money as you at around the same time. This is actually the critical weakness of CoinJoin: the anonymity set is small and it's fairly susceptible to blockchain analysis. Its main advantage is that you can stick to Bitcoin without hard forking.
Another calculated marketing decision: I made most of the OP about ring signatures. In reality, stealth addressing (i.e. one-time public keys) already provides you with 90% of the privacy you need. Ring signatures are more of a trump card that cannot be broken. But Bitcoin already has manual stealth addressing so the distinguishing technological factor in CryptoNote is the use of ring signatures.
This is why I think having a coin based on CoinJoin is silly: Bitcoin already has some privacy if you care enough. A separate currency needs to go way beyond mediocre privacy improvements and provide true indistinguishably. This is true thanks to ring signatures: you can never break the 1/N probability of guessing correctly. There's no additional circumstantial evidence like with CoinJoin (save for IP addresses, but that's a problem independent of cryptocurrencies)."

[android monero widget built]
This is a dense digest of the first several thousand messages on the definitive Monero thread.
A lot of things happened in this stressful days and most are recorded here. It can be summarized in this:
  • 28th April: Othe and zone117x assume the GUI wallet and CN pools tasks.
  • 30th April: First NoodleDoodle's miner optimization.
  • 11th May: First Monero exchanger
  • 13th May: Open source pool code is ready.
  • 16th May: First pool mined block.
  • 19th May: Monero in poloniex
  • 20th May: Monero +1100 bitcoin 24h trading volume in Poloniex.
  • 21st May: New official miner optimization x4 speed (accumulated optimization x12-x16). Open source wolf0's CPU miner released.
  • 25th May: partnership with i2p
  • 28th May: The legendary super-optimized miner is leaked. Currently running x90 original speed. Hedge of the "cloud farmers" is over in the cpu mining.
  • 2nd June: Monero at last has a logo. Ticker symbol changes to the definitive XMR (former MRO)
  • 4th June: Claymore's open source GPU miner.
  • 10th June: Monero's "10,000 bitcoin pizza" (2500 XMR paintig). Deterministic seed-based wallets (recover wallet with a 24 word seed)
  • March 2015 – tail emission added to code
  • March 2016 – monero hard forks to 2 min block and doubles block reward
There basically two things in here that can be used to attack Monero:
  • Crippled miner Gave unfair advantage to those brave enough to risk money and time to optimize and mine Monero.
  • Fast curve emission non-bitcoin-like curve as initially advertised and as it was widely accepted as suitable
Though we have to say two things to support current Monero community and devs:
  • The crippled miner was coded either by Bytecoin or CryptoNote, and 100% solved within a month by Monero community
  • The fast curve emission was a TFT miscalculation. He forgot to consider that as he was halving the block target he was unintentionally doubling the emission rate.
